An assistant state’s attorney dismissed the attempted murder case against Willie McDonald on Dec. 14 after numerous attempts to find its sole witness.
McDonald, who is represented by defense attorney Maureen O’Leary, was accused of shooting a 33-year-old victim around 2:45 a.m. on June 21, 2021, along the 1000 block of Cathedral Street. The 38-year-old defendant’s charges included attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment, and three weapons charges.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, the prosecutor informed Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry Williams that investigators with the state’s attorney’s office were unable to find the only witness in the case and, therefore, entered a nolle pros.
Judge Williams dismissed the case.
The defendant’s first trial date was originally postponed in August and scheduled to begin Wednesday morning.
