Attorneys in the case of attempted homicide defendant Dalen Daqwon Randall were able to squeeze in a January 2026 trial date, less than a month shy of his speedy trial deadline.
On Nov. 19, prosecution offered Randall to plead guilty to attempted first-degree murder for a sentence of life, suspending all but 40 years, and three years of supervised probation as well as a concurrent five years without parole for using a firearm in a crime of violence. The defendant would also be required to register as a gun offender and stay away from the victim upon his release from prison.
Defense attorney Hudson Miller rejected the offer on his client’s behalf before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland. Counsel informed the judge that all evidence in discovery has been provided and received.
The judge scheduled counsel’s requested three day trial, beginning Jan. 29, 2026, before Judge Anthony F. Vittoria. Randall’s anticipated trial date currently falls within the 180 days of a defendant’s right to a fair and speedy trial.
Randall was charged with a man’s attempted murder in August, following an altercation over a witness’ vehicle on June 5. According to court documents, Randall shot the victim twice — striking the man’s right side and right arm — on the 2800 block of Edmondson Avenue. Baltimore Police Department (BPD) responded to the scene just after 3 a.m. when they were alerted of a victim with gunshot wounds walking into Northwest Hospital in Baltimore County.
During their review of surveillance footage, police learned that Randall was upset over a dispute involving the victim’s use of a witness’ vehicle. Court documents state the defendant is heard in the footage saying, “I’m going to get your car back,” before walking over to the victim and demanding he return the witness’ vehicle. Randall then allegedly raised his arm, shot the victim, ran back to his vehicle and drove away.
