A 32-year-old man’s trial date was scheduled for March 2022 as counsel awaits a decision on a plea that was offered on Aug. 30 at Baltimore City Circuit Court.
Baltimore resident Jerry Byrd was charged with first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in a violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with drugs, having a handgun on his person, illegal possession of ammo, and discharging firearms.
The charges stem from an incident on March 20.
On Monday, the prosecution offered Byrd a plea of five years without parole for possession of a firearm. In addition, the prosecution would dismiss another case against Byrd involving drug possession.
Byrd’s defense attorney, Brandon Mead, said the offer had not yet been relayed to his client.
While awaiting a decision, Judge Melissa M. Phinn scheduled the trial for March 9, 2022, just a few days shy of the anniversary of the incident.
