Accused St. Georges Avenue Shooter Pleads Guilty to Possession of a Firearm with a Felony Conviction

On Feb. 9, a Baltimore man involved in a non-fatal shooting pleaded guilty before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Charles H. Dorsey. 

Willie Jones and his defense counsel Joseph Owens accepted a plea of 15 years, suspending all but time served with five years supervised probation for possession of a firearm with a felony conviction. 

Upon release, the defendant must undergo mental health and drug screening and treatment, and register as a gun offender. 

Jones, 59, was charged with illegal possession of a regulated firearm, having a handgun on his person, possession of a firearm, possession of ammo, and discharging firearms in connection to an incident on Sept. 7, 2022. 

According to court documents, on the day of the incident, officers were called to the 4200 block of St. Georges Avenue for reports of a shooting. On arrival, officers spoke to the defendant’s sister who told them that the defendant had been drinking when he discharged a gun inside his apartment. 

The defendant’s sister told officers that the defendant kept screaming that he wanted to kill someone.
