A 33-year-old homicide suspect rejected a plea offer in reception court before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on July 12.
Tyrone Bennett was charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person and illegal possession of a regulated firearm in connection to an incident on Dec. 16, 2023. Bennett was represented by William Buie III.
The prosecution’s plea deal to Bennett was life, suspending all but 50 years, with five years of supervised probation for first-degree murder and a concurrent 20 year sentence, the first five years without the possibility of parole, for firearm use in a felony violent crime. Buie rejected the plea offer on Bennett’s behalf.
Bennett’s four-day trial is scheduled to start Nov. 4.
