A 41-year-old Baltimore man accused of an attempted murder in West Baltimore last summer was sentenced to 15 years in prison as part of a plea agreement with the prosecution.

On May 21, Michael Childs pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder for a sentence of 30 years, suspending all but 15 years. He also pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and firearm use in a felony or violent crime, receiving a concurrent 12 years and a concurrent five years, respectively.

Defense counsel Matthew Connell represented Childs during Tuesday’s proceedings before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer.

According to the initial report from the Baltimore Police Department, Childs shot a 45-year-old man on the 2400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in West Baltimore on July 29, 2023. His arrest came more than two months later on Oct. 5.
