A 40-year-old Baltimore man accused of attempted first-degree murder was denied his motion for modification of his home detention on April 12.

Defendant Tyrelle Fields and defense attorney Augustine Okeke did not appear for the bail review hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Althea M. Handy after requesting to be removed from home detention, which he had been serving for two years.

The assistant state’s attorney asked the judge to cancel the defendant’s home detention and issue a warrant for his arrest. She explained that during the trial in February, which resulted in a mistrial, the defendant had taken a piece of evidence off the table mid-trial and hid it, resulting in lost evidence.

She also cited Fields’ testimony that he made contact with the victim, impersonated the victim and that Fields’ DNA was found on the gun related to the case. Additionally, there was a report that Fields had violated his home detention on March 26.

Judge Handy deemed Fields a danger to public safety and granted the prosecution’s motion. A warrant will be issued for Fields’ arrest.

Fields is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle on a public road, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun in a vehicle, firearm possession with a felony conviction, firearm possession with a drug conviction and illegal possession of ammunition in relation to an incident that occurred on May 5, 2021.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers responded to several gunshots on the 600 block of North Paca Street. The victim informed the BPD that he had agreed to meet Fields’ co-defendant Keisha Clark, his ex-girlfriend, after she had asked for money, and that when he approached her car, he saw Fields next to her with a semi-automatic handgun.

After Clark told him to give her all the money, Fields allegedly shot the victim three times. Detectives found five shell casings, DNA and blood evidence, as well as video footage to corroborate this narrative.
