On March 26, attempted murder defendant Darryl Toomer received a June trial date from Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland.
Toomer, 52, is charged with attempted first -and second-degree murder, first -and second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, reckless endangerment, two counts of firearm possession with a felony conviction, possession of firearms during a controlled dangerous substance offense, carrying or transporting a weapon, illegal possession of ammunition and firing a gun in Baltimore City in connection to a Sept. 29, 2023, incident.
During the hearing, Toomer was offered a plea deal by the prosecution. The offer consisted of life, suspending all but 40 years, for attempted first-degree murder and 20 years, the first five years without the possibility of parole, for firearm use in a felony violent crime. This would be served concurrently to the 40 year sentence and followed by five years of supervised probation. Toomer would also be required to register as a gun offender.
Toomer and his defense attorney Jason Rodriguez declined this offer.
Judge Copeland scheduled a three-day trial beginning on June 6.
