A Baltimore City Circuit Court judge handed down two life sentences plus 45 years to a 31-year-old man on Jan. 12 for the murder of his girlfriend and her sister two years ago.

During the proceeding, Deamonte Spencer was sentenced for the murders of 21-year-old Leah Jeter and 28-year-old Kamira Jeter, the latter he was dating. Spencer received a sentence of life for each count of first-degree murder, a consecutive 20 years for each count of firearm use in a felony or violent crime and a consecutive five years for illegally possessing a firearm.

The defendant, who was represented by defense attorney Donald Wright, was convicted of these charges in September 2023 with Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer presiding.

Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers were called to the intersection of Old Frederick Road and South Kossuth Street for a reported shooting shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 20, 2020. According to charging documents, Leah was found with multiple gunshot wounds on the ground outside a gray Honda Accord. Kamira was found in the front passenger’s seat, leaning back over the center console with one leg out of the door.

An autopsy revealed Leah was shot seven times, while Kamira was shot three times.

Video footage captured audio from the incident in which a woman, later identified as Leah, is heard yelling, “You shot her! You shot her. Are you serious, Sconey?” Leah continued to yell and honk a car horn, which stopped after more gunshots were fired.

The victims’ family later informed police that Spencer was also known as, “Sconey.”
