37-Year-Old Non-Fatal Shooter Takes Trial Over Five Year Plea Offer

A 37-year-old Baltimore man accused of a non-fatal shooting last August was given a trial date this March after rejecting a plea on Jan. 10.

Marcel Holt and his defense attorney, Jeremy Eldridge, appeared in reception court before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on Wednesday when the prosecution offered the defendant a plea of five years without parole for firearm possession with a felony conviction.

The plea also required Holt to register as a gun offender for the incident on Aug. 28, 2023.

Eldridge informed the court that he previously shared this offer with his client, who he said rejected the plea. Counsel agreed on a two-day trial, beginning March 12, before Judge Dana M. Middleton.

In addition to the aforementioned charge, Holt is also charged with having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a gun near a public building, illegal possession of ammunition, firing and discharging a gun in Baltimore City and two counts of illegal possession of a firearm.
