Sentencing Postponed Again for Former Morgan State Student Convicted of Killing 19-Year-Old Security Guard

The sentencing of former Morgan State University student Chase Marco Wilson for the killing of 19-year-old security guard Julian Fruh was postponed for the second time in two months.

Wilson was scheduled for sentencing on Dec. 20 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gregory Sampson. The 22-year-old defendant, who was a student at the time of the incident, was convicted of second-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime and having a handgun on his person in July following a three-day jury trial.

He is currently scheduled for sentencing on Jan. 16, 2024.

At trial, the prosecutor and defense attorney Brian McDaniel revealed details of a confrontation between Wilson and Fruh on Aug. 31, 2022, on the 4400 block of Marble Hall Road. McDaniel said the two men met earlier in the day so the victim could buy marijuana from the defendant.

It was defense counsel’s theory that Fruh and his friend asked to meet Wilson again that night under the pretense of buying a quarter-pound of marijuana, but instead, rob Wilson. McDaniel claimed Fruh punched his client in the face and attempted to grab his bag before Wilson shot the victim.

Using city surveillance footage, the prosecutor argued Wilson’s gun flashed after Fruh was already on the ground. She also questioned the defendant’s credibility, saying he changed his story several times during interviews with the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) and his testimony.

Wilson’s sentencing was initially scheduled for Nov. 14, but was postponed to Wednesday.
