A 20-year-old Baltimore man will serve nearly a year behind bars for a non-fatal shooting in Southeast Baltimore earlier this year.
Defendant Henry Escalon appeared in Baltimore City Circuit Court before Judge Christopher L. Panos on Oct. 31 to accept a plea offer from the prosecution. Escalon agreed to plead guilty to carrying or wearing a handgun on his person for a sentence of three years, suspending all but 360 days and three years of supervised probation.
Escalon, who was represented by defense attorney Stephen Beatty, must also register as a gun offender under the terms of the plea. He currently has credit for 114 days, having been incarcerated since his arrest on July 9—the same day as the incident.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, Judge Panos also agreed to waive all costs associated with court and parole and probation fees.
According to the prosecution, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers were called to Esther Place for a reported shooting and met with a witness. Two shell casings were also found at the scene.
Following further investigation, BPD officers found and arrested Escalon, who had a handgun in his waistband.
In addition to the aforementioned charge, Escalon was also charged with being a minor in possession of a firearm, having a loaded handgun on his person, illegally carrying a handgun and discharging a firearm in Baltimore City.
