Prosecutor Drops All Charges Against Defendant Accused with 2022 Non-Fatal Shooting

Charges against a non-fatal shooting defendant were dropped on Aug. 29 due to the victim’s unwillingness to testify in court, according to the prosecution.

The prosecutor waived the appearance of defendant Jerel Williams, who was represented in Baltimore City Circuit Court by defense attorney Singleton Matthews before Judge Barry G. Williams.

The defendant was previously charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in a felony violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of ammunition and discharging a firearm in a city.

According to a statement of charges issued by the District Court of Maryland for Baltimore City, the charges against Williams were associated with an incident that occurred on the 300 block of Augusta Avenue in November 2022.

On the day of the incident, officers with the Southwestern District of the Baltimore Police Department responded to reports of a man shot in the wrist with an assault rifle. A photo array was shown to witnesses and used to identify Williams as the suspect.
