The Brooklyn Homes mass shooting sent Baltimore City’s monthly non-fatal shooting count soaring in July, increasing from 58 reported shootings in June to 87 shootings last month.

The city racked up a total of 32 non-fatal shootings within the first two days of July, the vast majority of which were reported at 12:35 a.m. on July 2 on the 800 block of Gretna Court. Baltimore Police Department officers responded to a mass shooting that rocked the Southern District’s Brooklyn Homes neighborhood, injuring 28 people and killing 20-year-old Kylis Fagbemi and 18-year-old Aaliyah Gonzalez.

A 17-year-old teenager has since been arrested in connection to the mass shooting, according to the Baltimore Sun. The teenager has not been directly charged with shooting anyone, the report states, but is charged with possession of a firearm by a minor, assault weapon possession, reckless endangerment and having a handgun in a vehicle.

The police reported that multiple suspects were involved in the mass shooting.

In addition to the 30-person shooting, the Southern District also saw an additional eight shootings over the course of July, including a triple shooting on the 600 block of Cherry Hill Road on July 27.

Baltimore Witness data shows the Western District saw the second-most shootings with 12 reported last month, followed by 10 shootings in the Central District and eight shootings in the Eastern District. The Southeastern and Southwestern districts saw six shootings and seven shootings, respectively, with three shootings in the Northwestern District and one shooting in the Northeastern District.

Baltimore’s Northern District had no reported shootings, while the location of two shootings was unknown.

The city’s homicide count only increased by one homicide from June to July, bringing the total from 23 to 24 reported homicides, according to Baltimore Witness data. Among last month’s homicides was a fatal hit-and-run reported on July 19 in the Southwestern District at North Hilton Street at Phelps Lane, where police said they found a man unresponsive after being hit by a vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle drove away and no arrest has been reported at this time.

The Southwestern District saw the second-most homicides—with four homicides reported—after the six homicides reported in Baltimore’s Central District, which included the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Jonathan Williams on the 1800 block of Pennsylvania Avenue on July 11.

The Southern and Eastern districts each saw three homicides in July, with two homicides each in the Western and Northeastern districts and a single homicide each in the Northern, Northwestern, and Southeastern districts.

Only one of July’s homicides were reported in an unknown location, and no police-involved homicides were reported last month.
