On May 11, at approximately 1:25 p.m., officers were in the area of the 2500 block of McHenry Street. The officer involved attempted to stop an individual believed to be concealing a firearm.

The individual, later identified to be a 17-year-old male, fled and the officer gave pursuit.

During the pursuit, the 17-year-old produced a firearm, and the officer gave verbal commands to drop the weapon.

Refusing to comply with the officer’s commands to drop the weapon, the pursuit continued to the 300 block of South Catherine Street. The officer discharged his service weapon striking the 17-year-old.

Officers retrieved the firearm possessed by the juvenile, a loaded handgun with an extended magazine.

Officers rendered medical aid to the wounded 17-year-old and summoned medics to the scene. The 17-year-old was transported to an area hospital and is in stable condition.

The involved officer was Detective Cedric Elleby. Detective Elleby has been a member of the Baltimore Police Department since June, 2019.

Baltimore Police Department’s Special Investigations Response Team (SIRT) continues to investigate this incident, along with the State’s Attorney’s Office. The department has activated its Public Release of Critical Incident Recordings Policy. For more information on the policy, click here.
