On March 22, the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) ruled a shooting fatality that occurred on Feb. 7 as justified.

On the day of the incident, at approximately 7:25 p.m., Northeast District officers responded to the 3900 block of Ridgecroft Road for a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located 42-year-old Joseph Garrison lying in the street, suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported by medics to an area hospital, but later died at John Hopkins Hospital at Bayview.

When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect, a 24-year-old male, was still at the location.  He was taken into custody without incident and is now being questioned by detectives.

Investigators found that Garrison attempted to rob the 24-year-old male shooter, when the 24-year-old shooter produced his licensed handgun and shot Garrison in self-defense.

This case has been removed from BPD homicide numbers.

Homicide detectives are asking that anyone with information about this shooting call detectives in the Northeast District at 410-396-2444.
