A Baltimore man charged with murder had his trial date scheduled before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn on Jan. 18.
On Wednesday, defendant Juan Dean rejected the plea offer made by prosecutors of 25 years, suspending all but 20 years, the first five years without the possibility of parole with five years of supervised probation for attempted first-degree murder. In addition, he was offered a consecutive sentence of 15 years for possessing a firearm with a felony conviction. Dean also would be required to register as a gun offender.
The 41-year-old defendant and his attorney, Charles Paul, rejected the offerer and proceeded to set a trial date.
According to the Maryland Judiciary website, Dean is charged with attempted first and second-degree, murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle, and discharging firearms in connection with an incident that happened on June 25, 2022.
Judge Phinn scheduled for all counsels to regroup for trial on June 21.
