Involuntary Manslaughter Defendant’s Sentencing Postponed

On Dec. 1, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge LaZette Riggnold-Kirksey postponed an involuntary manslaughter defendant’s sentencing hearing due to a scheduling conflict with another defendant.

On Dec. 1, defendant Khali Yates, 23, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and wearing or carrying a handgun on her person in connection to an incident on March 3.

According to court documents, on the day of the incident officers were called to the 1300 block of N. Mount Street for reports of a shooting. On arrival, officers found the victim lying unconscious in the doorway, suffering from a gunshot to the upper torso.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Audibly angry and emotional, the victim’s mother gave an impact statement saying, “Everybody loved her. You have caused an entire family hurt. I pray my daughter’s death is not in vain.”

Yates’ next hearing is scheduled for Feb. 27, 2023.

Yates is represented by defense counsel Daniel Green.
