On Jan. 13, 2023, at approximately 2:24 p.m., Western District patrol officers for the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) responded to the unit block of Caton Avenue for a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers located two gunshot victims. The first victim, a 17-year-old male was located with a non-life-threatening graze wound to the head. The second victim, 18-year-old Joseph Kawa, was found unresponsive inside a vehicle. He was transported to Shock Trauma where he died a short time later.
Homicide detectives were notified and they assumed control of the investigation.
