Attempted Homicide Defendant’s Trial Pushed after Hiring New Defense Counsel

Attempted homicide defendant Edward McCormick is set for trial in May 2023 after he obtained new defense counsel, requiring a postponement.

On Dec. 13, defense attorney Tony Garcia requested a postponement before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Martin Schreiber, who was scheduled to preside over McCormick’s trial that was scheduled to begin on Tuesday. After moving to reception court, Judge Melissa Phinn agreed to reschedule the trial for May 19, 2023, to allow Garcia time to prepare for the case.

The details of the case were not discussed.

McCormick, 52, is charged with attempted murder, assault, and use of a deadly weapon with the intent to injure for the incident on Oct. 13, 2019.
