Somerset County Man Takes Murder Plea After Victim Dies From Injuries in 2015 Shooting

A second-degree murder conviction was added to a Somerset County man’s attempted murder conviction in 2016 after the victim died last year from injuries sustained in the shooting.

Leon Lomax accepted a guilty plea for second-degree murder in March 2022 and was sentenced to 20 years, the first five years without parole, before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Charles Peters on Nov. 21.

Lomax, 25, was represented by defense attorney Shomari Taylor.

On June 17, 2015, Lomax asked Tamar Brown to “go with me to do a [robbery]” as Brown was walking home along the 4600 block of Reisterstown Road, court documents state. Brown declined and turned away from Lomax, who then shot Brown twice in the back.

Baltimore Police officers were called to the scene just before 10:00 p.m., and Brown was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Brown’s injuries paralyzed him from the waist down.

The prosecution offered a plea agreement for the 2015 shooting, which Lomax accepted, sentencing him to 12 years for attempted second-degree murder and a concurrent 12 years for firearm use in a felony violent crime.

Baltimore Witness obtained the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office’s sentencing memorandum that states Brown died at a care facility in August 2019, and his death was ruled a homicide as a result of his injuries from seven years ago.
