Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale Rasin signed an order for an extended competency review for a murder defendant during mental health court on Nov. 30.

Circuit Court Medical could not conclude the competency of defendant Anthony Burris as of Wednesday, according to a report given to Judge Rasin.

The hearing was called in order to determine if the court could proceed with a second retrial in the case against Burris, who faces charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in a felony violent crime.

According to WBLA TV, Burris was arrested in connection to the murder of 31-year-old Earl Burton on the 1100 block of Laurens Street on Oct. 31, 2015.

Judge Rasin ordered all parties to reconvene on Jan. 4, with the understanding that a report may not be complete due to the long wait for admittance into a hospital by the Department of Health.

Burris is represented by attorneys Michael Lawlor and Nicholas Madiou.
