Officers Make Arrest in Fatal Shooting of 13-Year-Old

On Nov. 15, 35-year-old Tavon Battle was arrested by members of the Warrant Apprehension Task Force at a home in Harford County, Md.

Battle was brought back to the Baltimore Police Department’s Homicide Section (BPD) where he was interviewed. He since been transported to Central Booking where he is waiting see a the court commissioner. He has been charged with first and second-degree murder.

On Nov. 7, at approximately 5:19 p.m., on the 1400 block of E. Fayette Street, 13-year-old Kelsey Washington was shot.

She was pronounced dead on Nov. 14, after being declared brain dead on Nov 12. Her remains were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office where an autopsy will be performed.

Washington was shot She was transported by medics to Johns Hopkins Pediatrics Hospital where she was listed in grave condition.

Due to Washington’s condition, homicide detectives assumed control of this investigation from the onset.

Detectives acquired video footage and still photos, and ultimately identified the suspect.

This murder investigation remains open and ongoing.
