Judge Schedules Attempted Murder Defendant’s Trial for January 2023

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn scheduled a trial for a 24-year-old Baltimore woman in January 2023.

Veronica Jiggetts is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, conspiracy to commit first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, conspiracy to use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, two counts of having a handgun on person, two counts of having a handgun in a vehicle on a public road, having a handgun within 100 yards of a public building, and discharging a firearm in connection to an incident Nov. 16, 2019.

According to WBAL-TV, Jiggetts, 23, was with another Baltimore resident. The two women called a car service to the 1900 block of Braddish Avenue on Nov. 16, 2019. When the driver arrived, an argument broke out between the man and two women because he did not want them to open a bottle of liquor while in the car.

The trial for Jiggetts was initially scheduled to begin Oct. 5, but the prosecutor had a conflict in his schedule. The matter was then held over until Oct. 7 to allow time for the prosecutor to contact the witness.

Jiggetts’ trial is scheduled for Jan. 4, 2023. It is expected to last three days with Judge Kendra Y. Ausby presiding.
