The Baltimore Police Department is investigating a questionable death in the morning of Aug. 4.

According to a news release, officers were called to the 2400 block of Sherwood Avenue around 11:17 a.m. for an overdose, where an unidentified adult man was found suffering from obvious signs of medical distress, being restrained by a bystander. Once on scene, a second bystander administered Narcan to the distressed male.

Medics arrived on scene and an officer handcuffed the male in an attempt to restrain him.

As the medics tended to the victim, he became unresponsive, at which time they attempted life saving measures. The victim was placed inside the ambulance, uncuffed and transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

BPD’s Special Investigations Response Team (SIRT) and the Maryland Attorney General’s Office responded and will conduct a joint-investigation.

The department has activated its Public Release of Critical Incident Recordings Policy.  For more information on the policy, click here.
