A 39-year-old Baltimore woman accused of first-degree murder rejected a plea of 22 years in prison on July 12 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.
Niaja McCoy is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, use of a firearm during a violent crime, having a handgun on his person and discharging firearms in connection to an incident on Nov. 24, 2021.
The prosecutor presented a plea of life suspending all but 22 years in prison with five years of probation for first-degree attempted murder and five years without parole for use of a firearm during a violent crime. The charges are set to run concurrently.
Under the plea, the defendant must also register as a gun offender and stay away from the victim.
McCoy and her defense attorney, Augustine Okeke, rejected the plea.
McCoy’s trial is scheduled for Oct 27. It is expected to last three days with Judge Anthony F. Vittoria presiding.
