35-Year-Old Man Charged with Discharging a Firearm Denied Bail

A 35 year-old man charged with firing 12 rounds from a firearm was denied bail on Feb. 25 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Philip S. Jackson.

The Baltimore resident is charged with using a firearm while trafficking drugs, two counts of possession of narcotics, discharging a firearm, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, and possession of a firearm with a felony conviction in connection with an incident that occured on Jan. 1, 2022.

During bail review on Friday, Judge Jackson described the events of the incidents, noting that police officers heard gunshots while on the scene. Officers chased the defendant, and a handgun was recovered. In addition, 12 rounds had been found near the defendant.

Judge Jackson listened as the defendant’s defense counsel, Amy Stone, argued that this case is full of circumstantial evidence. Because of this, Stone promised to obtain bodycam footage from the police officers involved to confirm what actually happened since a gun was never found on her client.

Stone implored Judge Jackson to release her client to private home detention, mentioning how his family has already secured the paperwork for it.

The prosecutor emphasized the seriousness of the facts, stating that it is a fact that there is a gun involved and the discharging of the gun is indeed linked to the defendant.

Ultimately, Judge Jackson denied bail, believing that the defendant will be a danger to public safety if released to home detention.

The defendant’s next hearing is scheduled for May 31.
