Shooting Defendant Granted Bail

A 20-year-old man involved in a shooting was granted bail on Feb. 18 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Phillp S. Jackson. 

The defendant is charged with first and second-degree assault, use of a firearm during a violent crime, having a handgun in a vehicle, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, conspiracy to first and second-degree assault, conspiracy to unauthorized removal to property, conspiracy to use of a firearm during a violent crime, and having a handgun in a vehicle in connection to an incident on Jan. 13. 

On Friday, Judge Jackson listened as the prosecutor informed the court that there were three men in the car and one of them was shooting an assault rifle at someone in another car. The prosecutor also noted that the three men crashed the car into a vehicle, allowing for the two men to get caught along with the shooter. 

In addition, the prosecutor recommended that the defendant should be held without bail. 

Defense attorney Alexis Binder, a stand-in for Taylor’s defense attorney, Brandon Mead, argued that she was unsure why the defendant was arrested and claimed he was not the shooter or driver. Binder also noted that Taylor has no prior convictions, and he is not a flight risk. 

In addition, Binder said the defendant suffers from bad asthma which is a concern because of COVID-19. 

After listening to counsel, Judge Jackson granted the defendant bail. 

The defendant’s next hearing is scheduled for March 9.
