38-Year-Old Man Charged in Fatal Shooting

A 38-year-old man was charged with homicide in connection to a fatal shooting in September.

According to the Baltimore Police Department, officers responded to a shooting on the 5000 block of Corley Road around 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 4 and found 26-year-old Travis Ben-Watkins with multiple gunshot wounds.

Medics took Ben-Watkins to Sinai Hospital for treatment, but he died shortly after arriving.

During their investigation, homicide detectives learned that Ben-Watkins was having an ongoing dispute with a neighbor. When the neighbor’s son, later identified as Alejandro Gonzalez, came to visit, Ben-Watkins was shot after a violent dispute.

Gonzalez was extradited from Georgia on Sept. 28 and charged with first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, firearm use in a violent crime, having a handgun on his person, and having a loaded handgun on his person.

Gonzalez is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 28, according to the Maryland Judiciary website.
