A Baltimore man involved in a negligent manslaughter was offered a plea on Oct. 15 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.
Raekwon Carter, 24, is charged with negligent vehicle manslaughter in connection to an incident on April 8, 2020.
On Friday, Judge Phinn listened as the prosecution presented a plea of three years, suspending all but time served, with three years supervised probation, which the defendant has yet to accept.
Defense attorney David Shapiro said that a different deal of three years, suspending all but time served, with two years supervised probation was offered instead.
Once Judge Phinn confirmed the terms of the plea to be three years, suspending all but time served, with three years supervised probation, she asked the prosecution whether the victim’s family was aware of the plea deal.
The prosecution responded saying no and invited one of the family members to attend the hearing.
Audio issues prevented Judge Phinn from hearing the victim’s family member, so she asked the person to leave and come back later.
The person never returned and there are no updates about a future appearance on the Maryland Judiciary website.
