Judge Receives Favorable Update on Non-fatal Shooting Convict’s Progress

During mental health court, a man who was convicted for a non-fatal shooting, told a judge about his positive progress.

In May, Thurston Mayo was convicted of first-degree assault for a non-fatal shooting that occurred on July 4, 2020.  The Ellicott City resident has attended mental health court five times in the past few months for similar updates before Judge Gale E Rasin.

“No complaints,” Mayo told Rasin on Oct. 6. “[I’m] enjoying classes, learning about different businesses and investments. It’s “refreshing to meet new people and make friends.”

In September Baltimore Witness reported that Mayo took a plea deal of six years, suspending all but time served, and three years probation for first-degree assault on May 19, after shooting at a neighbor who was setting off fireworks on the 6600 block of Eberle Drive on the Fourth of July last year. Additional charges in his case included first and second-degree assault, firearm use in a violent crime, discharging firearms, and two counts of reckless endangerment.

“No concerns just looking forward to continuing my progress, ” he said.

Judge Rasin said it was good to see that he was doing what he is supposed to be doing.

Mayo’s next hearing in mental health court is scheduled for Nov. 3.
