Man Accused of Leaving Woman’s Body in Plastic Container Awaits Trial Date

The case of a 27-year-old homicide defendant, who allegedly stabbed a woman, was postponed on Oct. 1 due to counsels’ inability to agree on a trial date.

According to Baltimore Sun, on Aug. 29, 2020, Baltimore resident Timothy Callanan allegedly left Mason Leigh Moldovan’s body in a plastic container on the 1100 block of Gorsuch Avenue after stabbing her several times.

Callanan is charged with first-degree murder.

During Friday’s hearing in reception court, defense attorney Isabel Lipman said Callanan rejected a plea of life, suspending all but 65 years. Callanan also waived his right to a speedy trial.

Under Maryland law, a defendant has the right to be tried by their Hick’s date, or within 180 days of their first appearance in court.

Judge Melissa M. Phinn set a trial date for April 18, 2022.
