Judges Denies Bail for Youth Defendant

A juvenile, who is currently being held at the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Youth Detention Center, was denied Sept. 23 pretrial release.

The defendant, who was quarantined at the center because of a COVID-19 outbreak, is charged with attempted murder.

According to the prosecutor on the case, the defendant allegedly shot a young woman in the head and the abdomen.

The prosecutor said that police arrested the defendant after finding a firearm on his person in which the Caliber matched the casings on the scene.

The prosecutor also noted that this is not the first time the defendant has requested bail, saying there has been no subsequent change since the previous requests.

During the Thursday proceeding, the defendant’s father pleaded with Judge Cynthia Jones to release the defendant. He asked that his son be allowed to return to school without disruption.

School services are currently not being offered at the detention center because of the quarantine.

According to his defense attorney, the defendants actions were “out of character.” The attorney said the case is eligible for juvenile court.

The defendant also has another case pending against him, however Baltimore Witness could not get any further information because the defendant is a youth.
