Fatal Shooting Trial Set for 2022

A Baltimore man charged in the death of an 18-year-old man last year rejected a plea offer on Aug. 24 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.

Chance Taylor, 22, is charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to armed robbery, and firearm use in a violent crime.

On Tuesday, defense attorney Michael Tomko rejected an offer on his client’s behalf of life, suspending all but 50 years, with five years probation for first-degree murder, and 20 years for firearm use in a violent crime to run consecutively.

Taylor also declined to waive his Hick’s date, which is his right to be tried within 180 days of his first court appearance. However, due to counsels’ conflicting schedules, Judge Phinn scheduled his trial for Jan. 31, 2022.

According to CBS Baltimore, Taylor allegedly shot and killed Gary Williams on April 1, 2020. Williams walked to a hospital to treat his gunshot wounds but died shortly after.

Taylor’s case was originally scheduled to appear in reception court on July 20, but it was never called.
