The Baltimore Police Department updated the public Aug. 11 about a police-involved killing that occurred two days before.

According to a press release, the victim of the fatal shooting was Baltimore resident Marcus Martin.

Officers responded to the 6000 block of Alta Avenue Sunday night. As officers arrived, they were greeted by a woman and a female teenager, who told them they had been assaulted by Martin, 40, who was inside the home.

The women, along with a male teenager, exited the home, while Martin remained inside. Officers learned he was armed with numerous firearms and had mental health issues. Hostage and SWAT teams were called to the scene and began communicating with Martin.

Around 3:15 a.m. on Monday, Martin reportedly responded to the SWAT team’s “tactical measures” by opening fire. Baltimore Police officer Jerry Archambault shot back, killing Martin, who was pronounced dead by medics.

Police said the incident is being investigated by the Special Investigation Response Team, and that the department has activated its Public Release of Critical Incident Recordings Policy.
