Black Guerrilla Gang Member Gets Trial Date for Alleged Homicide

A member of the Black Guerrilla Family gang, who was found guilty in connection to a homicide seven years ago, rejected a plea offer on July 23 at Baltimore City Circuit Court.

Laser Womack was brought to reception court on Friday before Judge Melissa M. Phinn, following a postponement court hearing on June 22.

Womack, 34, was offered a plea deal on Friday of 30 years for second-degree murder. Defense attorney Sharon Dubey, rejected the offer on Womack’s behalf.

Womack is also charged with carrying a handgun.

Judge Phinn scheduled the trial to begin on Feb. 7, 2022. According to the prosecution, the trial will take at least six days and include 26 witnesses.

Womack had previously been found guilty in connection to a homicide on March 25, 2014, inside a home on 8th Street in Brooklyn, according to Fox Baltimore. Womack and his associates entered the home and opened fire, shooting and killing 21-year-old Johniese Sheppard and injuring two others, the Baltimore Sun reported.

He was sentenced to 80 years, suspending all but 40 years.

Another defendant’s case heard earlier this week returned to reception court on Friday.

Baltimore resident Armaud Frank, 22, was arrested on Sept. 1, 2020, in connection to an attempted murder two months prior on July 13, 2020.

During Friday’s proceeding, defense attorney Paul Polansky explained to Judge Phinn that while he received an offer on Frank’s behalf, he was unable to go over it with his client. Polansky also explained that Frank has multiple pending cases, including one that was presented while he was incarcerated.

Polansky said he and the prosecution are “close to working it out” to resolve the cases all at once.

No trial date was set, but Frank’s case is set to return to reception court once again on July 30.

Frank is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, first and second-degree assault, conspiracy to commit first and second-degree assault, firearm use in a violent crime, conspiracy to use a firearm in a violent crime, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, reckless endangerment, firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, carrying a handgun on his person, carrying a handgun within 100 yards of a public place, discharging a firearm in the city, and illegal possession of ammunition.
