Homicide Case from 2010 Not Called on Docket

A 2010 homicide case scheduled on the Baltimore City Circuit Court docket for July 6 was not heard.

Baltimore resident Tyrell Smith is charged with first-degree murder and using a handgun to commit a crime in connection to a homicide more than a decade ago. 

His case last appeared in postponement court on June 30. At the time, his defense team said he would be prepared to accept a plea offer in a hearing the following week. However, his case was not heard on July 6.

Smith, 38, is represented by defense attorneys John Cox, Madeline Bailey, Elizabeth Hilliard, and Linda Zeit.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Smith allegedly killed Donte Vandiver on May 24, 2010, on Belnord Avenue. 

Smith is believed to have made a living by robbing drug dealers and selling the drugs himself. Vandiver allegedly tried to rob Smith, which led to Vandiver being shot and killed. 

Smith was arrested June 22, 2010, after a car chase through multiple neighborhoods that ended in Highlandtown. At one point during the chase, an occupant in the same vehicle as Smith threw a loaded pistol out of the window, causing it to fire multiple rounds.

Smith’s next court date has not been updated on the Maryland Judiciary website.
