Defendant to Face Trial by Judge in Attempted Murder Case

Raequan Allen, 29, is scheduled to begin a bench trial , Oct. 30, in connection with an Aug. 2025 shooting on the 200 block of North Conkling Street. The trial will be held before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Paul Cucuzella.

According to the charging documents, police responded to the 200 block of North Conkling Street around 3:26 am on Aug. 16, 2025, for a report of shots fired. Officers recovered nine .40-caliber shell casings in a nearby alley.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the surrounding area which showed two men riding bikes into the alley shortly before the gunshots were heard. The footage also showed a man running away from the area after the shooting.

Detectives later identified Allen as a suspect through surveillance footage. In March a witness also identified Allen as the alleged shooter from a photo array.

A man later arrived at Johns Hopkins Bayview with gunshot wounds to his leg and back. He told investigators that he heard gunshots while walking away from a gas station and was hit as he attempted to turn around.

Jury selection was originally set for Oct. 29. However, after the judge explained the difference between a jury trial and a bench trial, Allen opted for a bench trial. In a bench trial, a judge, rather than a jury, hears the evidence and decides whether the defendant is innocent or guilty.

The one day delay is because the defense attorney, Staci Pipkin, is waiting for the jury to return a verdict in Donte Brown’s case. Also, witnesses for Allen’s case were scheduled for this afternoon and into the following morning.
