The accused killer of 23-year-old Cameron Paige is expected to begin jury selection on Oct. 16 for a double shooting that also injured a second victim in Downtown Baltimore in November 2025.
Jaden Kahlil Shanks, 27, and his defense counsel, John Deros, rejected a revised plea offer from the prosecution on Oct. 15 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Charles H. Dorsey III. The homicide defendant was offered 40 years, suspending all but 10 years, and five years of supervised probation for second-degree murder, five years without parole for using a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, a suspended 20 years for first-degree assault, and an additional five years without parole for possessing a firearm with a prior felony conviction.
The sentence for each charge would be served consecutively for a total of 60 years, suspending all but 20 years, the first 10 years without parole, and five years of supervised probation. The prosecutor noted that the offer would be withdrawn after Thursday morning’s proceedings.
Following a lengthy discussion with his attorney, Shanks rejected the offer and chose to proceed with a jury trial with jury selection set to begin Friday morning. Shanks will also face charges of attempted second-degree murder, having a handgun on his person, and additional counts of using a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence and possessing a firearm with a prior felony conviction.
During their investigation, Baltimore Police recovered security camera footage from nearby businesses that captured the shooting on the 400 block of W. Saratoga Street on Nov. 21, 2025. Police also found seven 9mm cartridge casings at the scene.
The footage reportedly shows Paige fighting with a man wearing black and yellow shoes, a black coat and a mask/hat and carrying a book bag, according to court documents. Police learned that the suspect, both victims and an unidentified woman “had an encounter” inside one of the businesses shortly before the shooting outside.
Shortly before 8:40 p.m., court documents state, the suspect was knocked to the ground during the fight and then pulled out a handgun and shot Paige multiple times, “including three times while Paige was incapacitated and lying on the ground.”
Paige was pronounced dead at 9:35 p.m. at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. The second victim, who was 18-years-old at the time of the incident, was also shot in the leg and treated at the same hospital.
Witnesses later identified Shanks as the alleged shooter.
