Testimony Continues in Gang-Related Murder Trial

Testimony continued on Oct. 2  in the gang-related homicide trial of Gregory Whitfield, 21, before Baltimore City Circuit Court before Judge Jeannie Hong.

He is accused of killing Theodore Burrell, 20, and attempted first-degree murder of another male victim along with  co-defendant, Bishop Chance, 25. Chance was also wounded in the incident.

The incident occurred on the 2400 Block of Frederick Avenue at the Westside Shopping Center.

Whitfield and Chance are allegedly members of the “YRN” in a rivalry with Burrell’s “Monroe/Mosher” group, and both gangs are believed responsible for multiple violent incidents.

The victim was found near a Wells Fargo Bank.

Security cameras from a Mini-Mart show a group congregating on a sidewalk in front of the store and then immediately running away.

A Baltimore Police Department (BPD) detective testified  that a suspect matching Chance’s description, is seen in the video looking back and immediately grabbing his buttocks in apparent pain from a gunshot.

The video also shows Burrell being shot to death.

After the shooting, suspects matching the description of Whitfield and Chance, fled in a white Hyundai Elantra. A license plate reader near the shopping center captured the license plate of the vehicle that turned out to be stolen.

Hours after the homicide occurred, the Elantra, was involved  in a three vehicle crash. Blood inside the vehicle was linked to Chance and the alleged murder weapon found nearby.

During cross examination, Defense Attorney, Roya Hanna, asked if the detective were able to interview nearby witnesses, the detective testified no one was willing to talk with law enforcement.

Hanna also asked if the license plate reader spotted the car later and he said it did not.

The Elantra was stolen one day prior to the homicide. However police have been unable to identify any suspects connected to the theft.

The  detective testified that there were no DNA nor latent fingerprints connecting the Hyundai Elantra to Whitfield. Also, that a  black Nissan Infiniti that dropped off Chance and the Elantra, but never seen at the same place at the same time.

Testimony is expected to continue.
