A pre-trial hearing was held on Sept. 28 in Baltimore City Circuit Court before Judge Kimberly McBride regarding an attempted murder incident that occurred on March 14, 2026 on the 2400 Block of Garrett Avenue. The hearing was delayed for continued plea deal negotiations between defense counsel and the state’s attorney.
Stand-in defense counsel, Robert Coleman, argued that the hearing needed to be delayed so that the regular defense attorney, Jason Rodriguez, would have sufficient time to negotiate with the prosecution.
The defendant, Kevin Brown, 49, stands accused of attempted first-and-second degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in the commission of a violent felony, firearm possession with a felony conviction, and illegal possession of a regulated firearm.
According to the charging documents, the defendant allegedly was caught on private surveillance at a nearby liquor store approaching a group of men while highly agitated, and allegedly pulled out his gun. Attempts at de-escalation by the group led to the suspect putting his weapon back in his waistband and the victim returning to his car.
Surveillance footage then showed the victim rapidly approaching the defendant from behind. An altercation erupted between the two, and the defendant allegedly pulled his gun out and fired at the victim once, hitting him in the right thigh. The defendant was allegedly identified by a witness.
Judge McBride put in the notice for a postponement, and sent the matter to Reception Court before Judge Videtta Brown who officially set the next hearing date for Nov. 4.
