On Sept. 25, Raequan Allen, 28, appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Dana Middleton for a bail review proceeding.
Allen called the situation a “misunderstanding” that was “because of a drug addiction.” His attorney, Staci Pipken, cited that Allen has a limited record, and is now clean from a pain-killer addiction since being incarcerated. Additionally, she spoke about a private investigator who gathered two witness statements that identify a different individual as the suspect.
Allen is currently charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault, reckless endangerment and multiple weapons violations in connection to a shooting shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 16, 2025, in the Baltimore Highlands neighborhood. Baltimore Police were alerted of the shooting after a 42-year-old male victim walked into Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center with two gunshot wounds to his leg and back.
In contrast to the defense,the state cited Allen’s current probation for a second-degree assault charge from July 2024. His current charges were a violation of the terms. They also said Allen has multiple different dates of birth and aliases noted in his records. The state wanted Allen’s status to remain unchanged, calling him a “threat to the public.”
Judge Middleton agreed with the state, saying she was also concerned for the public’s safety. Raequan Allen will continue to be held without bail.
His jury trial is scheduled to begin on Oct. 29 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Michael A. DiPietro.
