On Sept. 14, a teenage murder defendant pleaded guilty and was sentenced before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeannie Hong.
Alex’xander Marasa, 16, pleaded guilty to life in prison suspending all but 35 years with five years on probation for count one of felony first-degree murder. Additionally, he was also sentenced to 10 years with no probation for firearm use in a felony or violent crime. The firearm sentence will run concurrently to the murder sentence.
Marasa was originally charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime and robbery.
Judge Hong also referred Marasa to the Patuxent Youth Services Program. Following his release, the defendant also has to register as a gun offender for five years.
According to court documents, on Jan.12, 2025, Jamal Davis Sr. was working security at a McDonald’s restaurant on the 4000 block of Reisterstown Road.
Marasa grabbed Davis from behind in an attempt to take his service duty weapon. After a fight and unsuccessful attempt to take control of the weapon, Marasa shot Davis in the chest. After the victim fell to the ground, face down, Marasa punched him three times. Davis was pronounced dead about two hours after the incident occurred.
During the sentencing trial, a member of the victim’s family spoke, expressing how noticeable the father of five’s absence is.
Two members of the defendant’s family also spoke, expressing how Marasa was a great kid who hung around the wrong kind of people. Additionally, the defendant apologized to the victim’s family, saying this was all an accident and a bad judgement call.
