Jury selection for Jamar Marquese Hammond’s, 24, attempted murder trial was delayed before Judge Robert Taylor Jr. due to a lack of available jurors on Aug 11.
On Dec. 8, 2025, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) Officers were called to the scene of a shooting and met the victim who said he had been attacked on the 400 block of East Baltimore Street. The victim had minor cuts on his back.
He explained that he was sitting in his parked car when he was approached by a man who opened the car door and said, “You know what time it is.” The suspect then pulled out a pink handgun with a 50 round drum magazine, according to police documents.
The victim grabbed the suspect and fought with him in an attempt to get the weapon. The altercation continued until the suspect retreated into his car, which was parked in front of the victim’s.
The victim attempted to drive away, but one–to–two rounds were fired at his car by the suspect, damaging his rear and front windshields. Footage detectives obtained from the incident corroborate the victim’s story.
Detectives reviewed license plate readers (LPRs) and security footage of the incident, and allegedly tracked the suspect’s car back to Hammond. His photo along with other suspects was shown to the victim, and he identified Hammond as the alleged shooter.
Hammond has been charged with attempted first degree murder, assault, firearm use, and reckless endangerment. The trial will get underway as soon as a jury panel is seated.
