The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on May 14.
According to a press release from the OAG, preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 9:12 a.m. that day, officers with the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) received a 911 call for an armed individual threatening to kill himself in the 800 block of S. Caton Avenue.
An officer driving in the area encountered the man walking on the 3300 block of Wilkens Avenue, and notified dispatch that the man fired a shot. The officer exited his cruiser and issued commands. Both he and another arriving officer discharged their firearms, striking the man.
Officers rendered aid until emergency medical services arrived and provided treatment. The man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
A handgun was recovered at the scene near the man. No officers were injured during the incident.
