Fatal Franklin Square Shooting Ruled Self-Defense

The Baltimore Police Department (BPD) has ruled a fatal shooting from March justified after investigators determined the shooter acted in defense of himself and others.

The below case has since been removed from the 2026 homicide count.

On March 17, at approximately 11:48 p.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert on the 300 block of N. Gilmor Street.

Upon arrival, officers located a 40-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

While on the scene, a 44-year-old man walked into an area hospital seeking treatment for gunshot wounds. The victim is currently in critical condition.
