Trial Begins for Suspect Accused of Killing Man, Disposing Body in New Jersey

Trial began on Jan. 30 for a Dundalk resident accused of fatally shooting a man over two years ago and dumping the body in a New Jersey river, where it remained undiscovered for a month.

Pablo David Agosto Acevedo, 41, is charged with first-degree murder, five firearm offenses and one count of tampering with physical evidence in connection to the death of Pedie Edwards II, 39. The matter is currently being tried before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lynn Stewart Mays.

The state claimed that Acevedo and Edwards were seen together on the 600 block of N. Decker Avenue in the Ellwood Park area, where surveillance footage captured Acevedo getting out of the passenger seat of an Infiniti SUV, returning to the vehicle and shooting Edwards as he sat in the driver’s seat. Acevedo was then reportedly seen pulling Edwards’ body into the rear of the SUV and leaving the scene.

On the stand, the victim’s brother testified he submitted a missing persons report for Edwards on Nov. 1, 2023, after Edwards failed to return to home and became uncontactable. He stated he had been acquainted with Acevedo for many years as friends and noted Acevedo did not reach out to Edwards’ family for assistance in finding him.

On the evening of the shooting, home surveillance camera recordings from a residence on the 600 block of N. Decker Avenue captured a gunshot-like noise around the time Acevedo was allegedly seen shooting Edwards. On the stand, the owner of the residence recalled hearing a “pop.”

Testimony is expected to continue next week.
