Emily Ovando Sotelo is a third-year student majoring in Information Technology at Towson University. Her professional interests focus on cybersecurity, data, and leveraging technology to enhance transparency, accountability, and information access, particularly for marginalized communities. She was especially drawn to the Baltimore Witness internship due to its goal of enhancing public access to court information and reinforcing civic accountability via data and reporting. She is particularly eager to acquire practical experience with actual data, explore the connection between technology and journalism, and contribute to efforts that directly influence the Baltimore community
