Baltimore’s monthly homicide rate increased by 44 percent last month, jumping from nine incidents in October to 13 in November. November also saw three more deaths than October, with a total of 15 victims reported compared to the previous month’s 12. Meanwhile, the city’s non-fatal shooting rate dropped by 13 percent, with November recording 14 total incidents. 16 were reported in October.
Notably, the week before Thanksgiving saw a drastic uptick in violent crime, with a string of shootings leaving multiple victims dead and even more injured.
The evening of Nov. 21, 23-year-old Cameron Paige was gunned down in a shooting that occurred on the 400 block of W. Saratoga Street. An 18-year-old woman was also injured in the shooting but sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police reported.
Less than eight hours later, at approximately 3:27 a.m. on Nov. 22, a 31-year-old man was shot just blocks away on the 300 block of W. Lombard Street. Investigators later arrested 28-year-old Sami Haroon in connection to the shooting. Haroon sustained several injuries while being taken into custody, and following treatment was booked and charged with attempted first-degree murder.
At 2:26 p.m. the same day, a triple shooting in Northwest Baltimore left two men injured and one man, 24-year-old Khalil Clark, deceased. Investigators responded to the shooting on the 3100 block of W. North Avenue and transported the two injured victims to area hospitals for treatment.
Two more shootings occurred in Northwest Baltimore the following day. Just minutes before 21-year-old Jameel Judd was fatally shot on the 3200 block of Chelsea Terrace, a 32-year-old man was shot on the 3000 block of Fallstaff Manor Court.
The morning of Nov. 24, Baltimore police pronounced 48-year-old Antwan Burston dead following a wellness check at a Northeast Baltimore residence on the 4900 block of Crenshaw Avenue. Burston’s death was declared a homicide. Later the same day, 29-year-old Chloe Weems was gunned down and a 31-year-old man sustained critical injuries during a shooting on the 900 block of Poplar Grove Street.
Just minutes before the clock struck midnight on Thanksgiving, officers found 28-year-old Yasmine Lee and 30-year-old Sampson Ladson in a crashed vehicle on the 700 block of Ensor Street. Both victims were pronounced dead at an area hospital.
No shootings were reported on Thanksgiving Day.
