Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John A. Howard granted defendant Quan Daishawn Jones, 28, home detention on June 30 after Jones pleaded guilty to having a handgun on his person.
Jones was initially also charged with discharging a firearm, having a loaded handgun on his person, destroying property valued over $1,000, reckless endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to charging documents, on Dec. 22, 2024, security footage showed a Black male taking a gun out of his hoodie pocket and shooting the loading dock door at Everyman Theatre on the 300 block of West Fayette Street.
The man, later identified as Jones, then left the scene and returned to pick up an unknown object before leaving once again. The gun was fired during operating hours when the theater was occupied with people.
Execution of a search and seizure warrant revealed Jones possessed multiple weapons and ammunition, all legally registered to him. Police also found a green leaf substance suspected to be marijuana. Federal law prohibits medical cannabis patients and personal cannabis users from purchasing or possessing firearms.
During the hearing, Jones stated he was a “gun connoisseur” and apologized for his actions. Defense attorney Paige A. Neville also noted Jones is a habitual cannabis user.
After pleading guilty, Jones faces five years in prison, suspending all but one year, that Judge Howard said he will serve on private home detention. His sentence will be followed by three years of supervised probation.
The conditions of Jones’ plea will prevent him from owning a dangerous weapon without permission from the courts. He will also be prohibited from illegally possessing, using or selling narcotics.
